He is the elder son of Oriya actor Chakrapani Bhatti & Telugu actress Roja Ramani. He is an accomplished cricketer and participates in Celebrity Cricket League
He started his acting career at the age of eight, under Usha Kiran Movies production. He won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist in 1991 for the Tamil film Anjali directed by Mani Ratnam.
In the same year, he acted in the Malayalam children's film, Abhayam. The film won the National Film Award for Best Children's Film and Tarun won the Best Child artist Award at the Japanese film festival. He won three Andhra Pradesh state Nandi Award for Best Child Actor
