Santhanam, whose film Dhilluku Dhuddu, which released today (July 7) all over Tamil Nadu, is a happy man as he has quenched his long-term thirst of starring in a horror-comedy as the lead actor.
Speaking to Times of India, the Inimey Ippadithan star has said Dhilluku Dhuddu came his way at the right time.
"Ever since our childhood, we have been told ghost stories by our moms. Even I grew up listening to those stories and I have to admit that I was scared of ghosts. But horror movies are fun to watch. More than the scary part, when somebody shouts in the theatre when watching an intense horror scene, we end up laughing. I wanted to do a horror-comedy for a long time, and this film came my way at the right time."
Santhanam has said, his comedy tracks in the movie were inspired from the comical sequences of popular TV series, Mr. Bean. "The story revolves around a love story, but has an interesting ghost episode. Motta Rajendran and I have done some hilarious comedy scenes. I thoroughly enjoyed working with him. I have tried slapstick comedy, something on the lines of Mr Bean," he told the leading daily.
The comedian-turned-hero was required to shoot some difficult stunts. "I play a middle-class guy, Kumar, who resides in Royapettah. His mother is a dance master and his father is a fight master.
I did some research on men who live in this locality, their looks, and tried something different with my hairstyle and moustache for this film. Though it is a horror-comedy, I had to perform some major action blocks," Santhanam has said.
Since he has teamed up with his 'Lollu Sabha' gang, the 36-year-old actor has guaranteed that the movie will be a complete laugh-riot. "Working with my Lollu Sabha team was like a reunion. We had a great time shooting together as we all share the same wave length. When shooting, we used to discuss a lot of scripts. The one-liner of this film was developed way back. When Ram approached me with the script, I wanted to work on it. As I have teamed up with them, I guarantee that this film will be a two-hour laugh riot."
