Following the commercial success of 'Polladhavan' and the complements by the media, Dhanush is said to have raised his salary from 1.5 crore to 3 crore.
Despite having many hit movies like 'Kadhal Konden' and 'Thiruda Thirudi' under his kitty, this young hero has long been considered as a second rung hero. The major reason for this has been his inconsistency in his success and performance as well. He does excellent job in films by Selvaraghavan and Balu Mahendra but his performances under many other directors have been average.
Moreover, he has been doing stereotype roles as a happy-go-lucky boy turning a warrior. The frail looking boy's gravity defying fights too were not received well by the audiences in many films.
Debutant director Vetri Maaran's 'Polladhavan' changed everything. Though the initial reels show him in his typical role, the later part of the movie gives him adequate scope to showcase his versatile talents. He has excelled in emotional scenes and he is particularly good in exuding mixed feelings of anger and agony while confronting the leader of the underworld gang in the hospital.
Dhanush, easily the skinniest hero of Kollywood, has also worked hard to build his body and dared to take off his shirt in the climax fight.
The hard work and sincere attempt to get into the skin of the character got him well deserved accolades and of course, a raise in his salary.
Polladhavan has put him in the big bracket and it is up to him to maintain the status and climb the ladder further.
