Chennai-600028, one of the real offbeat and entertaining movies in recent times, was all about friendship.
The film's producers SPB Charan (Capital Film Works), JK Saravana (Tantra Films, Singapore)and director Venkat Prabhu are bosom buddies, and the film's essential storyline was about camaraderie fused over cricket and locational closeness.
So it was fitting that the film's 100th day celebration, held in Chennai yesterday, was graced by two of the best known pals in film circuit '€” Rajnikanth and Kamal Haasan.
The success meet is being organized on Friendship Day. Quite appropriately, 'I am today sharing the stage with my friend Kamal Haasan', Rajni pointed out.
Speaking about cricket-themed films, Rajnikanth said,' A few years ago, I was approached to do the Tamil remake of Hindi hit Lagaan, which was about cricket. We even searched for a director in Tamil to do the movie. Unfortunately the project did not take off'.
'All credit to Venkat Prabhu, who has rendered a hit in Chennai 600028, which is all about cricket. The success should have made his parents proud', he said.
On the friendship between Charan and Venkat Prabhu, Rajnikanth said, 'They should stay united as they are now forever. Every man needs a good friend in his life'.
Kamal Haasan, in his typical metaphor-filled words, said, 'I remember my early days when I and Rajnikanth played in the same team which was led by K Balachander'.
'We had acted together in dramas too. After coming to know each other, we developed a strong bond'.
'I lost all my interest in watching cricket some years ago. The movie has rekindled my interest in the sport', Kamal Haasan said and added, 'The search for success should always be there in them'.
