Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, who slashed the rental charges for shooting in Tamil Nadu, has come in for appreciation from Kollywood.
Several film personalities and film bodies have welcomed the decision of the Chief Minister.
Thanking Karunanidhi, the South India Film Chamber of Commerce said, it would encourage people to shoot more in Chennai and small-time and medium budget producers would be highly benefited.
Veteran producer-director Keyar, says, 'The announcement has come as a shot in the arm for producers. I was forced to go and shoot my film Dancer in Pondicherry only because the shooting charges were less there. It's uncertain business and producers suffer the most. Such concessions shown will embolden small-time producers to carry on their business here itself', he added.
Director Seeman, said, 'When the previous government hiked the charges by five times, I wondered why no one from the industry protested. It was nail on the coffin for small and medium producers'.
'Shooting in the neighboring States due to high rental charges here, we ended up providing employment opportunities for people there. Now we let the locals get employment opportunities here'.
Now the Chief Minister's announcement has come as a welcome bonanza for them.
