Ace cameraman, one of the founders of the Film Employees Federation of South India (FEFSI) and the South Indian Cinematographers Association (SICA), PN Sundaram was passed away at the age of 82 on March 22.
So, as a mark of respect to him the producer’s council has announced that all the shooting in kollywood has been shelved today.
Sources close to the film fraternity says “Sundaram was the first high profile commercial film cameraman who was a favourite with both MGR and Sivaji, as his profile shots made them look handsome and daring on screen. Sundaram went on to can a number of memorable movies starring MGR, Sivaji and Jayalaithaa among others.”
Another veteran cameraman Ramachandra Babu stated in his blog: “P.N.Sundaram, well known Cinematographer – Director and President of Southern Indian Cinematographers Association passed away yesterday (March 22, 2010) at Chennai. Till his last days he was healthy and active. For SICA his absence is a great loss as he was one of the much respected Trade union activists in the film industry who always fought for the workers rights. He was also a great technician and his skill with the camera was well known in the film industry”.
