The government of Maharashtra has conferred an award established in memory of late actor Raj Kapoor (one of India's great actors) on Rajinikanth, for his contribution to cinema and public life.
Though he grew up in Karnataka, Rajinikanth hails from Kholapur in Maharashtra.
Making his debut in Apoorva Ragangal, Rajinikanth in his career spanning over two decades has established an place for himself in the industry and is today the Super Star of Tamil cinema.
Rajini had earlier won awards including the best actor's award of Government of Tamilnadu, the Kalaimamani Award and Padma Bhushan award from the Government of India.
Rajini will receive the award at a function to be held on 30 April at Thane near Mumbai.
