The news of actress Kushboo playing Maniammai in director Gnanarajasekaran's movie on social reformer E V R Periyar has met with cold response from DK cadres in the State.
A section of the DK sympathizers have urged the director to reconsider the decision to cast Kushboo in the role of Maniammai in the movie.
Recently the director had announced his ambitious project with Sathyaraj playing the lead role of Periyar.
However when he came out stating that Kushboo will don the role of Maniammai, wife of Periyar, the DK cadres have stoutly opposed her being cast in the movie.
It may be recalled that a recent interview by Kushboo on pre-marital affair created a stir in the State leading to protests against the actress. A Non-Bailable Warrant was issued against the actress and several parties and organizations sought her public apology over the issue.
The DK cadres now claim that casting an actress with a tainted image for the role will demean Maniammai.
However it looks certain that Gnanarajasekaran will go ahead with his decision.
