It is a known fact that Natasimham Nandamuri Balakrishna's historical entertainer 'Gauthamiputra Satakarni's release date has tentatively been locked to January 12, 2017 as a Sankranthi season's gift for the fans and the audience.
Movie and trade analysts have expressed mixed feelings on this proposed date of the film's release. Pre-Sankranthi is considered to be the deadly un-season for the films as all the people throng to markets for purchasing cloths and other things for festival. They show least interest watching films unless there is an extraordinary element that prompts them watching the films. However, masala entertainers are not much affected with the pre Sankranthi release date.
Unlike folklore entertainers like 'Baahubali', historical entertainers have poor track record previously. If at all 'GPS' gets released on the day of Sankranthi instead of pre Sankranthi season, the film can be watched by maximum number of people so that the positive talk on the film might spread like a wildfire.
Agreed that Balakrishna had good track record in Sankranthi season with the films like 'Samarasimha Reddy' and 'Narasimha Naidu'. But then, it must be remembered that opposition films paved the way for those films with their genres. Megastar Chiranjeevi's 'Sneham Kosam' was made as a semi art film with the death of one of the characters played by him in that tragic film. On the other hand, 'Mrugaraju', that was made as a semi commercial film had a lion that was projected as if it were a hero. Consolidating all the pros and cons, it appears January 14 or 15 are the best choices for 'Satakarni' to get released. If the makers of 'GPS' apply this strategy of the release, Balakrishna may stand as a Sankranthi hero again.
