French auto major Renault Thursday said it will launch five cars in India between 2011 and 2013.
“We will be launching five cars in India, starting from mid-2011 to mid-2013. We will also launch a small car in the Indian market in 2012,” said Marc Nassif, country general manager, Renault India, on the sidelines of an automobiles conference.
The small car Renault is developing with its alliance partner Japanese Nissan will be produced at the Nissan plant in Chennai.
“All the cars, including the small car will be produced at the Nissan factory in Chennai,” Nassif added.
The company plans to launch its premium car Fluence and the Koleos in the domestic market in mid-2011.
Nassif also said the company is working with Indian two-wheeler major Bajaj Auto to develop a low-cost car, which would be launched by the end of 2012.
The company will focus on the compact car segment which constitutes around 70 percent of the total car market and is dominated by Maruti Suzuki.
