Smt Amala, wife of Yuva Samrat Akkineni Nagarjuna and daughter in law of Nata Samrat Akkineni Nageswara Rao is celebrating her birthday on September 12.
She bade goodbye to the films after getting married to Nagarjuna. While Amala's mother is an Irish woman, her father is a Bengali. Her full name is Amala Mukherjee.
Amala completed her education in Kalakshetram in Chennai and was a Bharata Natyam exponent. She entered into films through 'Cheek' in 1985.
She played roles in Satya, Pushpaka Vimanam, Gharshana and other such super hit films in 1988. She paired up with Nagarjuna in 'Siva' released in 1990, which remained a trendsetter.
In the same year, she also played heroine opposite Mega Star Chiranjeevi in 'Raja Vikramarka'. Later, she played in Telugu films like 'Nirnayam' in 1991, 'Aagraham' in 1993.
However, she became the wife of Nagarjuna in 1992. However, by that time, Nagarjuna had a six year old son Naga Chaitanya.
Later in 1994, Amala gave birth to Akhil. In 1995, i.e., within one year, Akhil played the lead in 'Sisindri'. The film was based on a Hollywood flick 'The Baby's Day Out'.
As Amala was very cordial and kind hearted towards the animals, she started an animal ware society called Blue Cross and is running it successfully in Hyderabad.
Amala is a complete vegetarian and always wears cotton and handloom sarees.
Though she earned name as a good artiste in Talugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi laugnages, she stopped playing roles in films and remained a good housewife, good wife and a very good mother.
