He is a genius who hasn't done enough work in Bollywood. Well known for his prowess in orchestration, Ilaiyaraja enjoys the status of a Demi God down south.
In spite of having done handful of Hindi films like 'Kaala Pani', 'Hey Ram' and 'Mumbai Express', he continues to be in demand. He is back in thick of things with Balakrishnan's 'Cheeni Kum' and Ram Gopal Verma's 'Shiva'.
According to the maestro, he accepted adman Balki's offer because of the innate faith shown by the director. 'I am not selective about doing Hindi Films. Maybe the people here are scared of approaching me, hence I don't get that many offers,' he says.
And what about Shiva, considering Ramu uses songs mostly for publicizing on television and many of his films hardly has a song or two? 'Ramu assured me that he would complete justice to my music and fit the songs properly into the narrative of the film,' the whiz says.
