Is terrorism a new phenomenon for films?

Terrorism has become a global phenomenon after the 9/11 attacks in US and other Madrid, London and Bali bombings.

In India, almost each every state came under the terrorist scanner and permanent alert is given for the public to be aware of terrorist mode of attack.

However, cinema as a best part of every day life and extends beyond just being an entertainer in India, try to reflect common peoples' perspectives on Terrorism.

Recently there are stream of films based on the Mumbai train blasts of the past year coming one after another to mark not alone the incident but also to capture the underlined public reactions towards them.

Even a film by Ram Gopal Varma is alleged for similar attack in Ahmedabad.

India's first major bomb blast happened in 1993 in Mumbai and later spread to other major cities as well. Economic targets are also under consideration as Bangalore, Hyderabad, Jaipur and attempt in Surat shows attacks are to weaken the business cycles for a while.

Ever since there are lot of films across regional languages made against Terrorism. Most of the films linked with power struggle and enmity between nations/groups etc.

However, very few registered sufferings and life after such incidents for a commoner. Recent film by Nishikant Kamat, Mumbai Meri Jaan depicts such life and Black Friday dealt with the background of such acts.

Globalised terrorism by Islamic groups have been conspicuously absent in Hollywood films after 9/11 incident and there are just two films have been based on the theme. Even to mention there is only a documentary on 9/11 by Michael Moore which is widely acclaimed.

It is more intriguing that India reacts in various means apart from diplomatic and political grounds. Films reach wider rather than other forms of arts may be the one reason that behind the appeal of such movies.

With the absence of political or diplomatic angles in these films but having human angle to counter such incidents in a more civilized way certainly help across the societies who face and suffer frequently.

Being bored with repeated treats on underworld dons, smugglers and other anti-social groups, terrorism genre would assist viewers to prepare themselves for any unfortunate event.
