A photograph from the film 'Family-Ties of Blood' has led to Amitabh Bachchan being issued a notice by the Goa Bench of Mumbai High Court.
The photograph which appeared on certain billboards put up on the NH 17 highway in Goa shows Mr.Bachchan smoking a cigar.
The Goa based National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE) on knowing about the photograph of Big B went ahead and filed a case against Mr.Bachchan and the Anchor Electric appliances company who used the still from the film and thus stylized smoking.
The court notices were issued to the Bollywood megastar and the electrical appliances company for going against the Anti Tobacco Act.
When the lower court decided not to consider the allegations raised by NOTE, the organization decided to move over to the High Court.
Earlier on January 5, NOTE sent legal notice to Mr.Bachchan accusing him of violating Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003.
When the issue came up in the lower court itself, Amitabh Bachchan had apologized to NOTE, through a letter that the particular still is from one of his films in which he played the character of an underworld Don and that he has not been smoking or drinking for the past 30 years and also wish not to take them up in the future.
Big B also had made it clear that the photo of him smoking is from one of his films in which he played the character of an underworld don and the still was used by the Anchor electric switches without his knowledge.
