Debutant director Tanuj Bhramar's film 'Dear Dad' has been appreciated by movie goers for its realistic depiction of a father-son relationship. The filmmaker is glad that his efforts have paid off and says, "It's a personal story for me. I am speechless that people have such wonderful things to say about the movie. My intent was to deliver a film that connects instantly with the audience."
The relationship drama deals with the stigma of homosexuality and how a family comes to terms with the reality of the patriarch's sexual orientation. For many, it was a delight to see actor Arvind Swamy back in Bollywood after a long hiatus. Ask Tanuj if it was easy convincing him and he says, "Not really. Initially, Arvind was uncomfortable but once we could answer the questions that he had about the script, he was game for it."
He adds that viewers are looking for vulnerable characters and stories that they can relate to. "A father's awkward talk with his son is more believable. When we started out, we felt it was a small film targeting the niche audience. But surprisingly, a lot more people could connect with the idea," he says.
The young director has already started working on his next project. "It is an action movie which I am still writing," he signs off.
