While Akshay Kumar has entertained one and all with his comic talent, the actor has also won tremendous acclaim from both the critics and audience for his serious, topical films like Baby, Special 26, Khakee, and Airlift. However, neither the actor nor those films have received any awards at any of the popular Bollywood award functions held every year.
When quizzed about the same at a recent interview, Akshay simply said, “To win awards, you need to perform for half the money at award nights. That is the simple funda to win awards in Bollywood. It is not that I don't get the awards; it is just that the reality of awards in India is completely different.”
However, when asked about where he categorizes the National Awards in this distasteful scenario, and why Baby didn’t win any National Awards, the actor spoke with pride about the greatest cinematic honor in the country: “I think National Awards are the only credible award in India. I think, if Baby was not nominated at the National Awards, it must not have been worth it.”
Wow…Akshay shows once again why he’s one Bollywood actor who’s not known to mince words, and never shies away from calling a spade a spade.
