Tata Birla Madhyalo Laila Movie Reviews

Sivaji, who was doing small time roles, turned a hero and proved himself with his impeccable performance as an innocent husband in 'Missamma'. His next film Mr and Mrs Sailaja Krishna Murthy also gave him good chance to prove his ability. Later he played hero in 'Mr Yerrababu, Adirindayya Chandram' and some other films. Very recently, he tried another character from an innocent person to a mass hero in 'Sitaramudu' and to certain extent he was able to gain a little image. However, there was no notable hit film to establish him as a commercial hero. Now he returned to his normal image and did a film 'Tata Birla Madhyalo Laila', where he played comedy and innocence again.

Tata (Sivaji) and his friend Birla (Krishna Bhagawan) were petty thieves. They used to steal money and enjoy their life without any kind of responsibility. Once they happen to learn that someone is planning a big deal with a Mumbai goon for Rs 30 lakh. In order to gain from that deal, Tata and Birla kidnap that goon and enter into the deal with the other party. Gajapati (Tanikella Bharani) is a big realtor. Ratnam (Jeeva), who was his protege once, turns a rival to him in his profession. Gajapati has a foster daughter Mahalaxmi (Laya). She has a very kind heart and loves her father Gajapati very much.

In fact Mahalaxmi loses her parents in her childhood and was brought up by Gajapati. As per the 'will' of Mahalaxmi's father, she turns the owner of the entire property after attaining majority. Tata and Birla get employment in Gajapati's house and accidentally they prove themselves as very loyal to Mahalaxmi.

Now, Gajapati plans to eliminate Mahalaxmi to grab her property and tells Tata and Birla to kill her. But, by that time Tata and Mahalaxmi fall in love. So Tata and Birla decide to save her from the clutches of Gajapati. At the same time, Ratnam, in order to take revenge decide to kill Mahalaxmi, whom Gajapati loves very much.

At is behest one Masthan (Ali) joins the Gajapati family in a woman's attire as Laila, thinking that he would have more proximity to Mahalaxmi to kill her. However, Tata and Birla come to know through Dorababu (Raghubabu), that Laila is none other than Masthan, who is also a petty thief like them. Now those who were employed to kill Mahalaxmi decide to save her. The film ends on a happy note with Gajapati realizing the true love of Mahalaxmi towards him as a father.

Director Srinivas Reddy tried to weave the story with several elements like love, sentiment, comedy, action and professional rivalry. He was able to make the audiences laugh heartily with excellent screenplay and maintained the tempo of the film at a steady pace.

Though the story moves at a slow pace in the first half, the entertainment values kept the audiences in good humor. Brahmanandam's character as cop is hilarious. Sivaji and Krishna Bhagawan did justice to their roles.

Laya, who is known for playing traditional girl's characters, had come out with mass steps in this film, being the last film in her career. Ali looked good in a girl's attire in the film and his voice modulation is terrific. Srilekha's tunes are catchy though looked little old.

Effective use of tunes from old films for certain scenes elevated them as the audiences could hum them. Camera work by Anji is good. Nagireddy's editing is also okay. The film has good entertainment values and the theatres would attract more audiences after mouth publicity about the comedy and entertainment values in the film.
