Kaaviya Thalaivan Review

Story:

Kaaviya Thalaivan is the story of two good friends played by Siddharth and Prithviraj, who were brought up together by their guru, Thavathiru Sivadas Swamigal [Nassar], head of a drama troupe. Sid and Prithvi turns best artists of their group 'SriLaSri BalaShanmukhananda Nadaga Sabha' in Sivadas guidance. Their troupe keeps us engaging in apredictable way, until Siddharth and Prithviraj starts competing to become the-best artist of their troupe, which ends in rivalry. Will the duo shed their ego for their drama company forms the crux of Kaaviya Thalaivan.

Performances:

Siddharth has delivered one of the best performances till date. He has done a great job be it be acting, dialogue delivery or dances.

Prithviraj is at his best. He has pulled out the complex role with ease. The scenes where he has to perform lesser than Siddharth, intentionally are one to watch out for. Prthvi has perfect Tamil slang in the movie.

Vedhika has given one of the impressive performances after Bala's Paradesi. Her acting, dance and expressions need a special mention.

Veterans Nassar and Thambi Ramaiah have dished out their performances, thoroughly apt. Anika Soti has a little yet pivotal role and she did her best in the role of a princess.

Technical Analysis:

Vasanthabalan has to be appreciated for re-creating the early 20th century in such an acceptable manner. His story and choice of cast and crew are amazing, take a bow.

Songs composed by AR Rahman may not be the typical chartbusters, but they perfect sync with the story line except 'Yaarumilla' song that disturbs the pace of the movie. Background music gels with the narration flow and taks the story forward many times.

Nirav Shah's cinematography needs a special mention. His colour effects are major plus for the movie. Visuals, art and costumes created the perfect mood taking audiences to the pre-independence era.

Praveen KL's editing is good. Lavish production by Sashikath's YNOT Studios and Varun Manian's Radiance Media.

Analysis:

Kaaviya Thalaivan film shows the complete team effort. Both performance and technical wise, KT is a perfect blend of talents. Screenplay seemed predictable in parts. Writers Jeyamohan and Vasanthabalan could have concentrated more on the second half and dialogues.
